First Day of School

Tyler had his first day of Preschool yesterday! The first day is an open house so, after a yummy breakfast out, the whole family went to meet Tyler's new teachers and check out his room. Tyler (and Calvin) had fun playing in all the stations but I was most excited about the observation room where parents can watch their children unobserved. Thursday is the first official drop off day. We're looking forward to a great school year!

Touchdown!

Perhaps it was the start of football season or watching the Bears and Aggies play to their first victories that led to both boys falling asleep with visions of footballs dancing in their heads...

Miscellaneous

I've had little snippets of things I've been meaning to post forever so I'm going to dump them all here in one post. Some are news, cute quotes or just stories but they're all things I didn't want to forget. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Earlier this summer Calvin started using the phrase "du bah du bah" in place of whatever word or phrase he didn't have the words to verbalize. For example, once at the pool all his buckets fell in the water and he pointed and shouted, "Oh no!! Du bah du bah!!" When he was learning to sing the ABCs he would use this phrase to replace certain letters that he couldn't remember. "H, I, J, K, du bah du bah, P"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During our games of hide and seek, if I've chosen a good spot and the boys need assistance finding me I'll give a few whistles until they can follow the sound to me. Now when we play (or when he's just looking for me around the house) Calvin walks around "whistling" for me. To whistle he sticks his finger in his mouth, blows out as hard as he can while making a high pitched noise. Here's a pic: He could definitely use some lessons from my Uncle Fletcher :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This past Friday I took Tyler shopping for school clothes. Here's a snippet of our conversation in the car on the way there.

Tyler: So I'm going to have to try on clothes at the store?
Me: Yes, you'll need to try on some jeans.
Tyler: So I'm going to have to take off my shorts at the store?
Me: Yes
Tyler: But then everyone in the store will see my privacy!!

I then explained to him about dressing rooms which he called "dress up" rooms the rest of the day. :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calvin loves to "go potty". He will walk into a room and announce "I go potty. I be right back." Then he goes into the nearest bathroom, raises the lid and stands in front of the potty. He then lifts up his shirt, pushes his stomach out as far as it will go and squeezes his belly button over the potty. After flushing he washes his hands and comes to tell me all about it. Ha! We have a long way to go for potty training :)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tyler (in a fit of rage) to Jim: I QUIT YOU DADDY! I'll always love you but I quit you!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the middle of August we took away Calvin's nu-nu and it really went better than I expected. He never went to bed screaming or crying for it and only asked about it a handful of times. Now his nu-nu seems like a distant memory :)
In other Calvin news, he recently managed to climb out of his crib with the rail fully raised. We've known for a while that he could climb in his bed with the side down and within the past week or so we've discovered he can also get out of his bed with the side down. Last Saturday it was my day to sleep in so Jim went to get Cal up.

Jim: Good morning! Ready to go downstairs?
Cal: No, want Mama!
Jim: Mama's sleeping. Do you want Daddy to get you up?
Cal: Never! (his go-to phrase)

So Jim left him in his crib with the rail raised. A few minutes later Calvin came pitter pattering down the stairs! He has yet to try and climb during naps, even when he's not sleeping and just sitting in there for over an hour so I'm holding out hope that it was a one time fluke. I'm not ready to put him in a big boy bed!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whenever Tyler is being watched by someone he calls it "keeping on".
"If you and daddy are going to dinner who's going to keep on me and Cal?"
Once to Meg "Thanks for keeping on me Mama Meg."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our neighbor Joe is a runner and Cal will see him out the window getting back from a run with his earphones still in for his iPod. Now Cal will get out the play stethoscope and run around the house saying, "I exercise like Goey!" Here's the visual:

Happy Birthday Vincent!

On Sunday we attended Vincent's 7 year old birthday party!! The theme was Army and all the boys had on appropriate attire. The kids played outside all day long and we had a delicious lunch on the lawn. It was great to catch up with the Carlisle/Axe/Larson family and so fun to watch Vincent open all his loot. Happy 7th Birthday bud!

Pool Pals

This week our friends Anna, Emmett, Elise, Kate and baby Lauren came over to play at the pool with us. They had so much fun! Everyone played in the little pool all morning then, after a lunch of pizza and fruit, took turns swimming and jumping into the big pool. While the kids were busy splashing the mommies got a chance to catch up and cuddle baby Lauren. Thanks for making the drive Christa and Sarah!

Look Ma, Two Wheels!

Yesterday Tyler said he wanted to try to ride with no training wheels. I took the wheels off his old Thomas the Train bike and he was a natural! After a few practice runs with me he was off and riding all by himself. He's even tackled the two big hills by our house. Woo hoo!! For now we'll keep him on the smaller bike since it's easier to handle and easier for him to reach the ground. We are so proud of our big boy (and he was so proud of himself too)!!!
