Bundled Up Baby

This picture was taken a few weeks ago when we had a warm front come through. It was in the mid 30s and sunny so we took full advantage. Calvin was happy in this position for about fifteen minutes but it was worth it!

8 Month Update

Little Calvin is 8 months old today and it's high time I posted an update on all his goings on. He's been changing so much lately and mostly for the better.

After settling down with his new ears his sleeping patterns improved greatly. He now takes two naps a day and sleeps at night from 6pm to 6am. Sometimes after a quick drink of milk he'll fall back asleep for 30-45 minutes. Dropping his middle of the night feeding didn't prove to be as hard as I thought, he practically did it himself. Getting him to sleep longer at naps was a different story but he finally learned.

His eating picked up as well. Before the only thing he would eat happily was his cereal but now he loves everything we give him. So far he's had apples, carrots, pears, butternut squash, cauliflower, prunes and yogurt. When he's in his chair he's ready to eat and if his first bite isn't ready then he has no problem letting you know about it! He prefers to be wielding two spoons while seated and to be fed at a lightening fast speed. These pics are from his dinner, the only meal he eats separate from the rest of the family due to his early bedtime. When big brother Ty is unoccupied during this time he provides young Cal with dinner entertainment. Tonight it was dancing and singing and Calvin was quite impressed.

His disposition is much better than we've ever seen it. He now greets most people with a huge smile and can handle other people besides me holding him. He's more comfortable each day with Jim and will now take a bottle from him with little fuss. In fact, he regularly calls for his "da da da". :)

His mobility has been the most drastic change recently. He quickly went from being able to sit on his own to diving down into a crawl position. For the past month or so he's been rocking on all fours and trying his darndest to figure out how to move. This past week it started coming to a head. Calvin began waking in the middle of the night again and starting his days in the 5 o'clock hour. When we'd go into his room he'd be on all fours rocking away in his crib. Having been through something similar with Tyler (remember this post?? http://tylerjamesbuffo.blogspot.com/2007/11/rise-and-shine.html) we thought he might be close to figuring it all out. Sure enough, earlier this week he started inching forward on his belly, then lurching forward on all fours and today he finally took two "steps" on his hands and knees. Yay Calvin! While I know this is going to totally change the game I am excited for him to be less frustrated with his mobility and to start sleeping again!! Here is a video of him just after his first real crawl. You can see how he has to work to stay on all fours and he still tends to lurch but soon he'll be FAST!

While I think the term "high maintenance" is still an apt description of our Calvino he brings so much joy and laughter into our lives. His smiles never fail to brighten the room and his sweet babbles and giggles are infectious. He's a character, no doubt, but he's our little character and we couldn't love him more.

Christmas '09

We had a great Christmas this year! On Christmas Eve, despite the winter snow storm, we traveled to Jim's parent's where we celebrated with Jim's extended family, about 50 people in all! Tyler was a ham as usual and Calvin was very agreeable since he was still a little groggy from the anesthesia. When we got home Tyler helped set out milk and cookies for Santa then it was off to bed. The next morning our family of four celebrated with Santa presents and gifts from my family. After breakfast we made our way to Jim's sister's house to celebrate again. After presents the big kids took Tyler tubing and skiing. He had a blast! It was great to lounge around and visit for a whole day. My favorite Christmas memory is cooking live lobsters sent to us by my grandma with Jim on Christmas Eve. Jim actually did the cooking. I was just there for moral support. They turned out great and were a hit the next day. Enjoy these pics. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
