Cabin Fever!

Last week we headed out for our Hayward 2010 trip. This year Meg and I braved taking all the kiddos and Jim and Joe joined us for the weekend. That's right, we had 5 boys under the age of 6! While there were moments that were completely crazy (can you imagine??) everyone had such a good time. The three oldest boys played outside most of the days, strapped in their life jackets and armed with their fishing poles. On this trip Tyler caught his first fish, attended his first campfire, ate his first S'mores, went on his first canoe ride and swam out in the lake for the first time.

Although Calvin went to Hayward last year he was only 7 weeks old so almost everything was a first on this trip. He had his first dip in the lake, his first boat ride and his first time in a life jacket, which he detested. He also earned the nickname Hoover for his ability to eat all the discarded food of 5 boys off the floor. It was like having a dog at the cabin!

As far as the adults, we drank a lot of coffee, wine and margaritas, played games, golfed (boys), shopped in town (girls), swam, enjoyed the sun, read and just enjoyed each others company in general. Here are some pictures of our trip!

Lotion

Two days ago I had just put Cal down for a nap and Tyler was in the bathroom getting his pants on and washing his hands. He's just starting to put his underwear and pants back on by himself so when he was taking longer than usual in the bathroom I didn't think anything of it. I was on the computer taking advantage of the few moments of quiet time when I heard an ominous thud coming from the bathroom. When I opened the door to peek in on Ty I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Lotion, and lots of it, were splattered EVERYWHERE! Every available surface (floors, walls, doors, toilet, sink, towels) was covered in white droplets. Tyler must have heard me coming because when I opened the door he said, "I'm cleaning it, I'm cleaning it. It's ok" as he frantically used the lotion soaked towel to "clean" the mirror. Unbelievable. I originally thought he went around the room pumping the lotion bottle onto everything as the bottle was dripping with lotion too. However, he explained later that night to Jim that he filled his hands up with as much lotion as possible, stood in the middle of the room and shook his hands out as fast as he could. Seriously. I wish I had stopped to take a picture of this but I was too concerned with cleaning up the mess fast. At least it was just lotion and not something worse! Needless to say we no longer have lotion by the bathroom sink :)

Gammy and Poppy Come to Visit

This past week my dad and stepmom came to visit. The last time they'd seen the boys was just before Thanksgiving. Tyler was so excited and eagerly anticipated their arrival all week. It was fun to show off Calvin and how much he'd changed. Unfortunately, he choose this week to cut through two molars so his manners and hospitality were less then stellar. Gammy, Poppy and I had fun taking Tyler to see his first movie in the theater, Toy Story 3. He was excited at first, especially about the Icee we got to share. Halfway through the movie he leaned over and said, "is it almost over? i want to go home!" He spent the rest of the movie in my lap. Oh well, the adults loved the movie! Tyler also got his first fishing pole with Poppy and the two of them spent two whole days practicing casting (or tossng as Ty called it) in the backyard. We also went out to eat, grilled out, played games and had fun just catching up in general. Everyone was sad to see them go and we look forward to getting together again soon. Thanks for coming Dad and Linda!

Calvin watching the train that ran around the restaurant. He loved it!

4th of July Weekend

Our 4th of July weekend was filled with fun and relaxation. Jim and I kicked the weekend off by getting away to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We stayed at a beautiful hotel downtown, went out to dinner and a play. The next morning we slept in, had breakfast in our room and enjoyed massages before heading back home. Later the next day we got out all our various water toys and made our own little water park in the backyard. We all had a blast! Jim tackled the project of building the boys a sandbox and it turned out great. (pictures of that to come later) The boys have been in it almost every day and even us adults enjoy building a good castle or two :)
On the actual 4th both boys missed the fireworks display but Jim and I enjoyed them from our deck with Meg. She really had something to celebrate as she learned just an hour before that her brother was home from Afghanistan. Welcome home Jake!!!
The next day we joined some neighbors at our local beach for some more fun in the sun. Here are some pics of our great weekend together. Happy 4th everyone!!
