Little Things

Now that our winter weather is taking a short break we're enjoying the fall we thought had passed us by. Tyler loves using his rake to get rid of the piles of leaves, even when they're not in our yard. And Calvin enjoys watching him. We've had many conversations about the leaves changing colors. As we drive down the street Tyler will say, "See mama? All the leaves turning red and orange and yellow. But not blue". No, dear, not blue.
Below is a picture of a face that Tyler drew all on his own. When I asked if it was a happy face he answered me, "No, it's a sad face".
"Why is he sad, Tyler?"
"Because he didn't listen to his mommy."
You got it, kid!

5 months

Today Calvin is 5 months old and I really cannot believe how the time has flown. Each day he's getting bigger and stronger and learning something new about his world.
He's finally figured out his hands and arms. He can now grasp at toys and pull them towards him and put them in his mouth. Several times I've watched as he's looked for his nuk, grabbed it and stuck it in his mouth. Yay!He's also just itching to sit up on his own. Whenever you lay him on his back he immediately lifts up his head and chest as far as he can. If you sit him in between your legs he can sit up unsupported for a minute amount of time. He loves sitting in his Bumbo or sitting in laps, facing out at the world.
Calvin's got the sweetest disposition. Whenever he sees me his face lights up with a huge, mouth-wide-open grin. It's pretty easy to get him laughing these days too. He loves to dance around, be bounced, tickled and play peek-a-boo. But the person who can make him laugh hardest is still Tyler. Calvin just LOVES his big bro. One of the things that makes Cal laugh loudest is when he watches Tyler golf. We don't know why but when Ty smacks the ball Calvin breaks out into a fit of giggles. Of course, Tyler loves being the center of attention and is quick to ham it up even more for his little brother. This usually means the noise and activity level spiral higher and higher until poor Calvin gets scared. His eyes will widen and he'll pout out his little lip, sniffle hard two or three times then let out a pitiful sob. It's pretty cute. Tyler is always quick to comfort him saying, "Don't be scared, it's just Tyler, being silly".

This past weekend we started Calvin on rice cereal. He needs to work on swallowing and not pushing it out with his tongue but the enthusiasm is there. For now he's just getting it once a day and we'll work up to three times a day soon. He's still taking 3 naps but I think in the next month or so he'll cut out one of them. Bedtime is 6:00 with one feeding in the night around 3 or 4am.
It was about this age that we introduced Pup to Tyler so I gave Cal his little monkey. The first night I put him down with it we didn't hear a peep which is unusual. When we checked on him before going to bed he was on his tummy with Monkey clutched tightly under his arm. So cute! Now Monkey accompanies him to every nap and often throughout the day.
It's been so fun to see Cal slowly discovering his world and all the people in it. I can't wait to see his little personality start to emerge in the coming months!

3 Boys in a Bed

Every morning before our day officially starts we all pile into bed together for a little cuddle time. The morning this picture was taken the bed of choice was Tyler's. I just love my boys!

My Little Snowflake

Meg's mom made this cute little wrap for her to bundle her babies up with in the winter. Since all her boys are too big for it now she's loaned it to Calvin. I've always loved it when she brought over William, then Sam, wrapped up tight in it. It's so handy and looks so cute. I can't wait for Calvin to wear it this winter!!

It's Back!!

And it's here earlier than usual this year. AAAAUUUUGHHH!! (my anguished cry)
Winter snuck up on us quick this year as we had been enjoying a pleasantly warm September. With October came rain and cold weather and our first snowfall of the year. The best thing about winter are the cute and cozy PJs!In other news, Mr. Calvin is recovering from an ear infection. His naps started to dwindle last week and by Friday his nighttime sleep went as well. When he was awake he was cheerful and he never had a fever but the doctor confirmed it Saturday at Urgent Care. I feel so bad that he was in pain but part of me is happy for the easy explanation for his sleeplessness. After 3 days on antibiotics he's already sleeping better. Yay!

4 month weigh in

Monday Calvin turned 4 months old. I can't believe how the time has flown!! Below are his stats:

weight: 18 lbs 1 oz--95th percentile
height: 26 inches--86th percentile

Our doctor calls him my Budda baby, just as she did Tyler. :) We can now officially begin feeding him cereal but may hold off another few weeks. She pronounced him in excellent health, although the day of the visit he was coming down with a little cold. Because of said cold we have been having a rough time during the night this week. I feel like I've been up with him every couple hours or so. This morning when his cries woke me I felt particularly well rested. When I glanced at the clock it was almost 6 in the morning! I don't expect this to be repeated soon but it's nice to know he can do it. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
