Tyler is Two!!

Our little baby is officially two years old today! This morning we heard Tyler crying at 4:58am. He must have been dreaming because he settled down right away. After a few minutes of silence Jim and I both realized that the very first time we heard that cry was exactly 2 years and 5 minutes earlier. What a beautiful memory!
Two years ago Tyler could barely open his eyes. Who would have dreamed he'd turn into the all out character he is today??
Jim took off work to help celebrate the special day. To start it off Tyler got his favorite breakfast, pancakes and sausage. Then he played some golf in the basement until it was time for his 2 year check up. It was fun to see our doctor again as it'd been 6 months since our last visit. She was my doctor when I was pregnant with Tyler then took over as his pediatrician so she's been with Tyler right from the start. She pronounced him healthy as a horse and was very pleased with all his new developments. Here are his 2 year stats:
height: 33.3 inches (25th percentile)
weight: 31.6 pounds (90th percentile)
Next we headed to a local indoor play place for some running, sliding and lunch. After Ty's nap he and Jim ventured outdoors to enjoy the great 40 degree day. Tyler even got to hit his first outdoor golf balls of the year. What more could a birthday boy want??For dinner we treated Tyler to Mexican food at one of our favorite restaurants then to the ice cream shop for dessert. What a great day!Tomorrow we're having a little party with Jim's family and our neighbors so the celebrating will continue. We love you Tyler! Happy Birthday!

A Parenting First

Tyler has handed us many wonderful parenting firsts, however Sunday evenings was not among them. That's right, the first vomit. Sunday late morning we noticed Tyler acting very lethargic and his appetite had disappeared, a sure sign of trouble. By the time he woke up from his nap he had a fever of 102. After refusing all food Jim and I were finally able to get him to eat half a container of peach yogurt...or so we thought. Next thing we knew Tyler had thrown up all over himself and Jim and scared himself half to death in the process. Poor little guy didn't know what was going on! Thankfully it seemed to be just a little stomach bug and it didn't even last 24 hours. He woke up this morning in fine spirits with no fever and has slowly regained his appetite. It's amazing how well you know your little one as a parent. Before the first sign of fever hit we could tell something was wrong by his subdued manner. We'll take a healthy spunky (read: loud and crazy) Tyler any day!

Baby Emmett

Our friends Steve, Christa and Anna have welcomed a new baby boy into their family. Emmett James was born January 21 and since then hasn't put up too much of a fuss about anything! He eats great, sleeps well and is just about the cutest think you'll ever see. Jim, Tyler and I made our way over to meet Emmett this past Saturday. I got to hold him the majority of the time we were there and was in heaven. Tyler was interested in Baby Emmett but had much more fun running around with Anna. Those two kept us entertained with their creative games, singing and all around goofiness. After a great visit we all had pizza and brownies. Yum! Congratulations to Steve and Christa on their new addition. Emmett is precious and Anna is a great big sis!

Band...More Band!

These are the pleas I hear issued from Tyler anytime a trip in the car is mentioned. The band in question is none other than the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the song he's obsessed with is the War Hymn, of course. Despite what you might be thinking I am not to blame for this and there was no brainwashing involved. It all started with a book given to Tyler by his Grammy for his first birthday called, "Born to be an Aggie". It's a great book that explains the traditions and various elements of an Aggie football game. The Football Book, as it's called around our house, became one of Tyler's favorites and a staple of our bedtime routine a few months ago. During one reading Jim attempted to jazz it up and trumpeted out the War Hymn while reading the page devoted to the band. And that was all it took. After endless renditions of the song ourselves, I finally wised up and popped in my Aggie Band cd in the car. Now we cannot go anywhere without listening to the Aggie War Hymn in an endless loop. He's gotten so familiar with it that he now mindlessly hums the first stanza or so while doing pretty much anything. We'll hear him in his crib or while he's cleaning up his toys or while he's just playing by himself. It has indeed become Tyler's soundtrack. Miles away from College Station, at barely even two years of age, another Aggie fanatic has been born. I am so proud.

My Godson

Not only did I have the honor of being present when Samuel Robert Axe was born into this world but now I also have the great privilege of being his godmother, along with his aunt Molly and uncle Josh. Josh and Molly live in Denver so I was the sole godparent present at his baptism this past Sunday. Sammy was wonderful during the ceremony, smiling and cooing at the pastor. Afterward we had a great lunch and yummy cake. I am so excited by this extra bond between us and to be there for Samuel for whatever he needs in the future.

Baby B is...

a healthy little baby boy! Jim and I are so excited to be having another boy and a precious brother for Tyler. I have some great ultrasound pictures that I will try and scan soon to post. Baby was very active during our viewing and had both his hands up by his face most of the time. The technician said he's measuring right on schedule and everything looked great. It was wonderful to see our new little one and to have the peace of mind that he's healthy.
